The Perfectly Imperfect Family: Real Solutions for Mindful Parents Navigating Today’s Biggest Challenges
About
In a world of picture-perfect parenting posts and curated family moments, this book offers something far more valuable: truth.
Parenting has never been easy, but today’s challenges—from screen time battles to anxiety epidemics, from digital pressures to academic stress—can make it feel impossible to get it right.
What if you didn’t have to?
Inside these pages, a diverse group of experts, therapists, educators, and parents share their most powerful insights on power paradigms, boundary setting, raising children who feel seen and heard, trusting your own intuition, and finding self-compassion amid the chaos.
Through personal stories, evidence-based strategies, and practical tools, you’ll discover liberating news: research confirms children thrive without perfect parenting, and the “perfect” family is a myth. Because it is in the messy, beautiful reality of family life that growth and connection happens.

Cecilia and Jason Hilkey co-founded Happily Family, an online education company dedicated to giving parents the support and tools to understand how kids’ brains work, address challenging behaviors, clear up communication, and create connection in families. Since 2012, they have interviewed over 250 parent experts and created online conferences and courses that reach a worldwide audience of over 100k families each week. Cecilia and Jason have worked as early childhood educators and with special needs children and have raised three kids of their own (two biological and one “adopted”). They have been featured in local and national media and regularly present at schools, businesses, and conferences locally and abroad. They live in Oregon with their family in a house shaded by an oak tree.
